Event Description

Mathematics and science as academic subjects present unique challenges for interpreters to render effectively into ASL. Both subjects rely on abstract concepts, specialized vocabulary, symbolic representation, and visual-spatial reasoning. Participants in this full-day workshop will learn ASL strategies to make math and science accessible and engaging in the classroom. They will explore how linguistic features such as classifiers, spatial mapping, depiction and chaining can enhance clarity and accuracy. Through practice and feedback, interpreters will leave with practical tools to strengthen their work across STEM classrooms.
